China News Service, February 22. Tang Renjian, director of the Central Agriculture Office and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stated on the 22nd that as the newly added live pig production capacity is realized as pork production, the most tight period of pork market supply has passed, and the relationship between supply and demand will be in the later period. The State Council Information Office held a press conference on the 22nd to introduce the situation of comprehensively promoting rural revitalization and accelerating agricultural and rural modernization.

A reporter asked: The price of pork has always been the focus of people's livelihood. We have noticed that the price of pork has been on the rise again recently.

What work has the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs done to ensure the production and supply of live pigs? Will the people eat cheaper pork this year?

In this regard, Tang Renjian said that since last year, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has taken a number of measures to support the restoration of pig production capacity and stabilize pig production and market supply.

According to the original plan, at the end of last year, the live pig stock will be restored to its normal year, which is 80% of the 2017 level. As of the end of last year, it has recovered to more than 92%, which is 12 percentage points higher than expected.

Therefore, recently, especially around the "two festivals", it can be felt that at such a price level, there has not been such a large increase as in previous periods.

The overall momentum of supply and demand in the market is now good.

In the next step, as the newly added live pig production capacity continues to be realized as pork production, the most tight period of pork market supply has passed, and the supply-demand relationship will become more relaxed in the later period.

It is expected that the first quarter of this year, around March, will increase by about 40% over the same period last year.

By the second quarter, around June, the pig stock can be restored to the level of the normal year in 2017.

In the second half of the year, live pig production and pork supply will gradually return to normal annual levels.

Tang Renjian pointed out that this year’s Central Government’s No. 1 Document attaches great importance to this issue, calling for the protection of the basic production capacity of live pigs and a sound long-term mechanism for the stable and orderly development of the live pig industry.

Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the current recovery, but also to focus on long-term stable production.

"Everyone is very familiar with the pig cycle. We were tossed by this cycle in the previous round, and we can't be tossed hard by this cycle in the future. So we are now studying and considering how to reserve the production capacity of live pigs in addition to comprehensive measures. When the quantity is large, the price is low, and some companies may not be able to repay the money, they cannot kill sows and chop the pig farm. Seize this key to reserve production capacity to deal with the pig cycle I mentioned just now. "Tang Renjian said.

Tang Renjian said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will closely monitor the dynamics of production development, and pay close attention to studying specific methods to stabilize and reserve production capacity to ensure the stable development of the pig industry.
