<Anchor> It is a

friendly economic time.

Reporter Kim Hye-min is here.

Reporter Kim, today (19th), we are going to talk about the used car market. Is there a movement in the used car market that large companies such as domestic automakers are trying to enter?

<Reporter>

Yes, when buying a domestic used car, first search through the app once. If there is a car you like, you contact the dealer and go to see the product.

These dealers are connected by platform apps, most of them belonging to small businesses or small businesses.

However, automakers, such as Hyundai and Kia Motors, do not directly sell used cars.

On the other hand, as those of you who are looking to buy used cars, foreign cars know, companies like Mercedes and BMW have been selling certified used cars directly for several years.

Why are imported car makers selling used cars directly, and domestic cars are blocking this?

<Anchor>

But this is what has been the case. Is there a reason for this story since last year, so recently?

<Reporter>

Yes, first of all, let me tell you about the domestic car market, it is twice as much as the Korean used car market and the new car market.

The number of newly registered cars last year was 1.91 million units, the number of used cars traded in Korea, and 3.87 million units, much more than this.

The domestic used car market has more than doubled compared to the new car market.

Moreover, with the prolonged economic recession, the relatively inexpensive used car market is growing rapidly every year.

Here, some used car dealers are constantly selling cars by tricking customers.

Other cars are sold at a high price because they are attracted to false sales.

Accidents and repairs may be hidden or even touted.

So, if automakers sell used cars themselves, they can change these bad practices and expand consumers' options, which is what automakers claim.

<Anchor> In the

end, as the used car market is growing, it seems that large companies are also trying to advance, but I still have a question.

As reporter Kim said earlier, it's the same automaker, but foreign automakers can sell used cars.

But why can't Korean automakers sell?

<Reporter>

Uniquely, in Korea, automakers were essentially blocked from entering the market.

This is because the Shared Growth Committee designated the used car business as a suitable business for small and medium-sized businesses in 2013, but this deadline expired in early 2019.

This time, the used car industry requested that it be designated as a'suitable for livelihood'.

However, the Shared Growth Committee expressed an inappropriate opinion, saying, "The barrier to entry is having a rather negative impact on the welfare of consumers."

Discussions between the used car industry and the finished car industry have not been narrowed down, and in the meantime, the mid-term ministry has not been able to coordinate this.

Then, in October of last year, the Democratic Party agreed to mediate this, and the day before yesterday, a ceremony for the inauguration of the Used Car Win-Win Cooperation Committee was scheduled to be held, in which the ruling party, government ministries, and industry all participate.

However, the inauguration ceremony itself was canceled the day before, when the used car industry suddenly announced that it would not participate.

<Anchor> In the

end, it seems that there is some discussion process left. Reporter Kim, what do you think will happen to this?

<Reporter>

First of all, the government is not completely defeated.

It means that the used car association will not come to the inauguration ceremony, but it does not reject the conversation at all.

However, in the used car industry, there is such a strong situation that there is no intention to participate in the committee.

In particular, Hyundai Motor Company has come up with a win-win plan, saying that it will only deal with the sale of '6 years, 120,000 km or less'.

Because vehicles less than 5-6 years old are'real for sale', large corporations will become dominated.

Unless the industry narrows the disagreement or the government comes up with a clue in the meantime, it will not be easy for consumers to buy used cars from automakers for the time being.
