Each year, EDF loses several hundred thousand customers, attracted by the low prices of competitors.

But is it really worth changing energy supplier?

Europe 1 weighed the pros and cons.

EDF will present its annual results this Thursday.

While the coronavirus crisis has affected the energy supplier, it has faced another challenge for several years: the leakage of around 900,000 customers per year.

Most of the time, consumers are looking to lower the bill.

But is it worth it to change energy supplier?

Europe 1 weighed the pros and cons.

Interesting for heating with electricity, less for gas

It all depends on your heating method, because that is what accounts for the bulk of your energy consumption.

For those who heat themselves electrically, the change can be good.

According to the CLCV consumer association, you can save up to 100 euros per year.

On the other hand, it is less interesting for those who have gas heating.

In the majority of cases, if the difference is not so obvious, it is because the 35 suppliers in France are limited to slash prices.

"When you are an energy supplier, you have on the one hand the network costs, such as the transmission and distribution of electricity, on which you will not have room for maneuver and you will pass them on to the consumer You will have taxes, roughly a third of the bill, on which you will not have much leeway either, "explains Xavier Pinon, co-founder of the comparator Selectra.

Learn about follow-up and customer service

Suppliers still have the option to play on part of the costs.

"The last third of the bill are the costs of supply, electricity and business management and customer service management. These are costs that you can play on as a supplier to offer lower prices," continues Xavier Pinon.

For a few tens of euros less per year, you can therefore end up with a supplier who does not offer telephone customer service for example.

It is therefore necessary to learn well beforehand.

Another point to take into account: according to the National Energy Mediator, EDF is one of the suppliers with the lowest litigation rate on the market ... unlike Engie and Eni.
