Francisco Luzón

died on Wednesday after several years of fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The economist held positions of responsibility at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, Argentaria and Santander.

Born in 1948 in Cañavate (Cuenca) and graduated in Economic and Business Sciences, Luzón joined the Santander board in 1997 and was re-elected at the general meetings held in 1999, 2001, 2004 and 2007. He was also president of Argentaria and member of the board of directors of BBVA.

Likewise, Francisco Luzón was an external director of Inditex, world vice president of Universia and second vice president of the Royal Board of the National Library.

Luzón was diagnosed in 2014 with ALS, a very serious degenerative disease without cure that withdrew him from his profession and ended up costing him his life.
