Suzuki Swace -

DR

The last time the manufacturer was present in this segment, at least on the European market, it was with the first generation Baleno, which made most of its career during the second half of the 90s. In short, the Swace is not a big first for Suzuki (although, see below), but a return to business.

Already seen

Let's not beat around the bush: If the Swace vaguely reminds you of something, it's not for nothing, since it is indeed a slightly reworked version of the Toyota Corolla SW.

It should be noted that the two manufacturers are now closely linked, each holding shares in the other.

Major challenges in the automobile force, they have joined forces to share the burden of future developments, and the Swace is the first visible fruit of this union.

For its version, Suzuki was content to create a slightly different front end, with simpler and sharper lines than that of the Toyota.

For the rest, everything is identical and the Swace therefore shares the muscular and dynamic silhouette of its cousin.

It is obviously the same inside.

The interior is simple, functional, it favors ergonomics and comfort with stylistic effects.

The equipment is complete from the basic version, with for example a good list of driving aids and an 8-inch touchscreen connected multimedia system.

And since this is a family station wagon, it is important to know that the Swace is rather spacious despite its compactness.

Five adults will easily take place on board, and the trunk offers a minimum volume under the shelf (or rather under the luggage cover) of 596 liters, expandable to over 1,600 liters.

Full hybrid like at Toy

As mentioned above, the Swace is still a bit of a first for Suzuki, since this is the brand's very first Full Hybrid vehicle.

The mechanics are therefore well known: a 1.8-liter petrol engine, associated with an electric motor, the whole delivers 142 hp and is signed… Toyota, of course.

You won't be surprised to learn that on the road, the Swace displays the same qualities as the Corolla, but also its faults.

In this case, the auto-CVT box, not yet completely rid of the "elastic effect" felt during pronounced accelerations.

However, it will not shock calm drivers and apart from that, we mainly meet the good sides of the car: its comfort, its excellent soundproofing, but above all its sense of economy.

With a little anticipatory driving, we noted an average in town of… 5 l / 100 km, without forcing.

Really, for an honest family like this, which should not be recharged in the evening since it does it itself constantly, it is remarkable.

The question is: why the Suzuki rather than the Toyota?

Not for a question of price in any case, since the prices are equal.

We will therefore choose according to the preference of a look, or a brand.

In either case, we will not be mistaken.

The Suzuki Swace starts at € 29,550.
