For weeks, Germany has been discussing the question of whether new single-family houses should be built.

The debate is heated at times.

While some feel restricted in their right to live freely, others focus on the lack of space in cities and metropolitan areas.

It all started with a report in WELT AM SONNTAG on January 3rd.

In it, the head of the Hamburg-Nord district, Michael Werner-Boelz, said: There should be no more single-family houses in newly designated building areas.

The reactions were violent, he says in an interview with WELT.

And explains why he gives priority to apartment buildings in cities like Hamburg.

WORLD:

The detached single-family house is a lifelong dream of many citizens, the majority of Germans want a house with a garden.

Werner-Boelz:

I don't want to take that

away from

anyone either.

We only have a few potential building sites left in this district.
