After the creation of the industry code for media content creation such as YouTube, the first report on gross income was released.

According to the data released by Democratic Party Rep. Yang Gyeong-sook, a member of the National Assembly's Planning and Finance Committee, the top 1% of media content creators' income who reported their comprehensive income in May last year was 18.125 billion won, an average of 670 million per person. It was 10,000 won.

The average income per person of 277 people in the top 10% was 216 million won.

There were 2,776 media content creators who reported their gross income in 2019 for the year attributable to them last year, and their reported income was 87.5 billion won and an average of 3152 million won per person.

Income amount is the amount before expenses are deducted and is similar to sales amount.

In September 2019, the National Tax Service established a new industry code for media content creation and one-person media content creation in September 2019 to determine the income of new businesses.

As of January last year, the number of YouTube Korean accounts with more than 100,000 subscribers was 3,400, which is analyzed to be that the total income reported by YouTubers was relatively low compared to the actual annual income.

Rep. Yang Gyeong-suk emphasized, "As it is a structure that it is difficult to determine the profits of YouTubers without voluntary reporting, it is necessary to thoroughly supervise the tax authorities to prevent income tax evasion."
