The Russian group Svetofor will land in Spain in the coming months with its supermarket chain Mere, a model inspired by the German chains Lidl and Aldi.

The objective is to open a hundred establishments in four years.

This has been explained by

the general director of Mere Spain, Andrey Murzov,

to the Efe agency.

He has indicated that he hopes to inaugurate the first location next May and that he points to Madrid, Murcia, Valencian Community, Catalonia and part of Andalusia as priority areas for expansion.

They promise to offer prices between 10 and 20% lower than their competitors while reducing costs as much as possible.

This will include selling product directly on pallets (as Lidl and Aldi did in the beginning), that their stores are barely staffed and already negotiate with suppliers to test larger formats to sell cheaper.

"The store model is quite similar to that used by Lidl and Aldi years ago.

Our motto is to offer the best price every day and for this we have a business concept that involves saving on operating costs, starting with the rent, the decoration of the premises and the staff ", details Murzov.

The importance of fresh products

is one of the most outstanding characteristics of the Spanish consumer compared to other European countries where packaged food has a greater weight.

"We want to sell everything that leaves us a good margin, in principle we do plan to sell fresh", say those responsible for Mere, who are in the negotiation phase with suppliers to supply their stores.

At the moment

his plan does not include "online" sales

and neither does it include the creation of a specific white label.

The CEO of the firm plans to close 2021 with between 10 and 15 stores open, and by 2025 he hopes to be present throughout the country, with close to a hundred.
