A brief appearance.
A black mask on the lower face, Benjamin Netanyahu pleads "not guilty", thanks the court and leaves the courtroom, without explanation.
His lawyers then take over.
They present their arguments: according to them, "
part of the investigation was opened [against their client], without the required authorizations
".
Discussions with the magistrates last all morning.
This
resounding trial is
expected to bring together more than 300 witnesses.
But the defense wants more time to prepare the case.
The hearing is finally closed at midday with no response to this request and no date for the next appearance.
A prime minister in office accused of corruption, embezzlement and breach of trust is unprecedented in the history of the Hebrew state.
Especially since the country is in the midst of an election campaign and Benyamin Netanyahu is playing for political survival.
This Monday morning, in front of the court, dozens of Israelis were also gathered to
cry out their anger
and demand the resignation of Bibi, who "
wants to transform their country into a dictatorship
".
