It was found that it took 14 years and 6 months for the 50,000 won new card to be used after it is issued.

The shelf life of banknotes has increased by one year from the previous year, and as the spread of Corona 19, non-face-to-face transactions were activated, and the circulation life of banknotes increased.

According to the results of the Bank of Korea's 2020 banknote distribution life estimate, the 50,000 won note was 174 months (14 years and 6 months).

The 10,000 won note was 130 months (10 years and 10 months), the 5,000 won note and the 1,000 won note were 60 months (5 years) side by side.

Low-priced coupons, such as 1,000 won and 5,000 won notes, are often used for purchasing goods and services and for change, so their distribution life is shorter than that of high-priced tickets.

According to last year's survey, each banknote's lifespan was longer than in 2019.

The 50,000 won note was extended for 12 months, the 10,000 won note was extended for 3 months, the 5,000 won note was extended for 11 months, and the 1,000 won note was extended for 7 months.

The BOK estimated that this was due to the expansion of the use of non-cash payment methods, the spread of non-face-to-face transactions due to Corona 19, and the increase in demand for safe asset storage.
