The government decided at a cabinet meeting on the 5th to amend the law, which includes state support to enhance the international competitiveness of Japan's shipbuilding and shipping industries.

Japan's shipbuilding and shipping industries are intensifying competition with China and South Korea, and labor shortages are becoming more serious.



For this reason, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has put together a bill to amend the law to support the maritime industry, and a cabinet decision was made on the 5th.



Under the amendment, if a shipbuilding company formulates a plan that will lead to efficiency such as business restructuring and introduction of robots and receives national approval, ▼ long-term loans from government-affiliated financial institutions, ▼ subsidies for technological development, and ▼ We are making it possible to receive a wide range of support such as measures to reduce the tax burden when establishing a new company.



The government wants to enhance the international competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry and maintain employment in regions with many production bases.



On the other hand, in the shipping industry, it is obligatory for businesses to appoint a person in charge of labor management, and the aim is to improve the working environment so that younger generation seafarers can easily become established.



The government intends to submit an amendment to this law to the ordinary session of the Diet, which is currently being held, with the aim of enacting it.



At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akabane said, "We would like to work to implement the support as soon as possible with this bill."
