Because of problems with the on-board computer, the electric car manufacturer Tesla calls almost 135,000 cars into the workshops in the USA.

The company is responding to the request of the US traffic safety authority NHTSA.

She published the recall on Tuesday.

According to the NHTSA, model S sedans from 2012 to 2018 as well as all-terrain vehicles of model X from 2016 to 2018 are affected by the possible defect.

In these cars, the reversing camera and other safety devices may not work properly due to the defect.

The NHTSA had already asked Tesla in mid-January to call 158,000 cars to the workshops because of the problem.

The authorities did not explain why there are now 134,951 cars.

It is one of the largest recalls for Tesla in the company's history - 158,000 cars are almost a third of the annual production in 2020. Tesla has to replace part of the on-board computer, according to the NHTSA.

The recall campaign comes in the middle of a phase in which Tesla is experiencing an extraordinary boom on the stock market.

In the meantime, the company of high-tech pioneer Elon Musk is worth more on the stock exchange than its competitors General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Fiat Chrysler and Volkswagen combined, despite the comparatively low production figures to date.
