The German airline "Lufthansa" completed the longest flight in its history today, after its "Airbus" aircraft "A 350-900" traveled 13,600 kilometers in 15 hours and 36 minutes.

A company spokeswoman said that by landing in the Falkland Islands, the company formed the longest non-stop flight in its history.

The plane took off yesterday, Sunday, from the German city of Hamburg, with researchers from the German "Alfred Wegener" Institute and the new crew of the German research icebreaker "Polarachttern" on board.

It is decided that the 92 passengers will travel to the ship located in the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean in order to obtain long-term data for climate forecasts in the Sea of "Wood" in Antarctica for a period of two months.

A spokeswoman for the "Alfred Wegener" Institute stated that the reason for the special flight was the "Corona" pandemic, adding that before departure, the passengers and crew of "Lufthansa" were in quarantine for two weeks.

The "Lufthansa" plane is scheduled to return to Munich on Wednesday.

The replaced Polarachttern crew will also be on board.
