Yue Huairang, chief reporter of The Paper

With the gradual release of the economic index of major cities in China in 2020, the "trillion club" cities continue to expand, with Nantong in Jiangsu, Quanzhou in Fujian, Fuzhou in Fujian, Hefei in Anhui, Xi'an in Shaanxi, and Jinan in Shandong becoming the six new cities on this list.

The so-called "trillion club" refers to cities in mainland China whose annual GDP reaches or exceeds 1 trillion yuan.

In 2019, a total of 17 cities across the country were listed in the "Trillion Club", including: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Suzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Nanjing, Ningbo, Wuxi, Qingdao, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Foshan.

With the addition of six new cities, the members of the "Trillion Club" have reached 23 cities.

So where will China's next GDP "trillion city" appear?

The Paper reporters noticed that at the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan", it is Dongguan, Guangdong that is most likely to be among the "trillion city".

On January 26, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee’s newspaper "Nanfang Daily·Dongguan Observation" published an article titled "Dongguan Delegation Hotly Discussed at the Fourth Session of the Thirteenth Provincial People’s Congress. Be a good prefecture-level city with a high quality report. "Development Leader" article.

The report mentioned that Xiao Yafei, deputy secretary of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, deputy secretary of the Dongguan Municipal Party Committee, and mayor, said when participating in the review of the provincial government work report that during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Dongguan’s GDP increased from over 600 billion to 965 billion, an average annual growth rate exceeding 6.5%.

This also means that Dongguan is only one step away from the GDP trillion mark.

Except for Dongguan, which is about to enter the gate of the "trillion city", according to the ranking of urban economic indicators in 2019, the following cities are still some distance from the "trillion" threshold in terms of economic volume and have huge potential.

For example, the statistics released by the Yantai Municipal Statistics Bureau of Shandong show that according to the results of the unified calculation of the city-level GDP, the GDP of Yantai in 2020 is 781.642 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.

Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 57.274 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.4%; the added value of the secondary industry was 319.239 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 405.129 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.7%.

According to data released by Jiangsu Changzhou Statistics Bureau, after preliminary calculations, in 2020, Changzhou will achieve a gross regional product (GDP) of 780.53 billion yuan, an increase of 4.5% at comparable prices, ranking third in the province.

In terms of three industries, the added value of the primary industry was 16.43 billion yuan, an increase of 2.0%; the added value of the secondary industry was 361.62 billion yuan, an increase of 4.2%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 402.49 billion yuan, an increase of 4.9%.

On the morning of January 29, the Xuzhou City Government held a press conference to inform the public about the city's economic fortunes in 2020. The data showed that the GDP of Xuzhou City increased by 3.4% to 731.97 billion yuan.

In addition, the official website of the Dalian Municipal Bureau of Statistics released data on January 25. According to the unified accounting results of Liaoning Province’s regional GDP, Dalian will achieve a regional GDP of 703.04 billion yuan in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 0.9% at comparable prices.

In terms of industries, the added value of the primary industry was 45.92 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 3.2%; the added value of the secondary industry was 281.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.3%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 375.60 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.5%.

Dongguan, Guangdong, which is "on the doorstep", plus the cities Yantai in Shandong, Changzhou in Jiangsu, Xuzhou in Jiangsu, and Dalian in Liaoning, which are in the range of 700 billion to 800 billion yuan, and the economic indicators for 2020 have not yet been announced. Tangshan, Hebei, whose total amount is comparable to these cities, is expected to become the first echelon to move towards a "trillion city" during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.

In fact, some cities have already looked forward to entering the "trillion city" in conceiving the "14th Five-Year Plan".

For example, the "Xuzhou Daily" published on January 13 published the full text of the "Xuzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China on the Establishment of Xuzhou National Economy and Society" adopted at the 11th plenary meeting of the 12th Xuzhou Committee of the Communist Party of China on December 28, 2020. Development of the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan and the Proposals for the 2035-Year Vision (hereinafter referred to as the Proposals)

It clarifies the economic and social development goals during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, that is, "the city's regional GDP will increase by about 6.5% annually, and strive to be among the trillion-dollar cities by 2025."
