The NDR withdraws a planned pay increase for its employees.

The reason for this is the lack of an increase in the broadcast fee, the broadcaster announced on Friday in response to an epd request in Hamburg.

The NDR is exercising a special right to terminate the collective wage agreement.

The salaries for NDR employees will not rise by 2.45 percent on April 1, as originally planned, it said.

This also applies to the fees paid to freelancers.

First, the editorial network Germany reported on the cancellation of the salary increase.

According to its own information, the NDR had previously proposed a compromise to the unions in negotiations: Among other things, this provided for a salary and fee increase of around 1.23 percent on April 1.

A possible retroactive payment in the event of an increase in the broadcasting fee was also promised.

The special right of termination for the collective wage agreement was agreed in 2019 in the event that the increase in the broadcasting fee recommended by the independent commission for determining the financial needs of broadcasters (KEF) does not come into force in January 2021.

According to its own information, this means that the station is missing an additional 2.8 million euros per month.

The radio license fee for ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio should increase by 86 cents to 18.36 euros on January 1st.

15 federal states approved the increase, only the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt did not vote on the corresponding law in December 2020.

Since the radio license fee was not increased, ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio no longer saw their needs-based funding guaranteed and brought proceedings at the Federal Constitutional Court.

The decision in Karlsruhe is still pending.
