BMW iX3 -

DR

At first glance, it looks like a “lambda” X3.

But on closer inspection, the iX3 differs with blue inserts scattered around the body, a grille of upwardly revised proportions, slicked front and rear bumpers without air intakes, as well as special rims. 19 or 20 inches supposed to limit air drag.

Unlike the i3 and i8 which were developed specifically to accommodate electrical mechanics, the iX3 is a modified X3.

The conversion was however very well studied since the batteries, placed in the floor, encroach very little on the interior space and on the volume of the trunk.

And to avoid spoiling anything, the iX3 adopts the latest generation (the 5th) of eDrive technology, whose virtues are numerous.

In addition to offering 30% more power than the other models of the brand, the system also offers greater energy efficiency thanks to technological advances made on batteries, in particular.

The latter have a capacity of 80 kWh, which allows BMW to claim a rather decent range of 460 km WLTP.

Full equipment

No surprise when you step inside: it is indeed the interior of the X3, very typical BMW.

Fun fact: the music that sounds when you start and stop the car was composed by Hans Zimmer, the famous German musician who was responsible for many film soundtracks.

Sold at a rather ambitious price close to 70,000 €, the iX3 plays the card of full standard equipment, with metallic paint, LED headlights, three-zone automatic air conditioning, automatic tailgate control, panoramic sunroof, the Driving Assistant Professional Pack and ambient lighting.

The most demanding can opt for the superior "Impressive" finish, which benefits in addition to the 20-inch rims, acoustic glazing, sports seats, BMW head-up display, Park Assist Plus and the excellent audio system. Harman Kardon.

Good in all respects

Available only in rear-wheel drive version, the iX3 has the technical particularity of having the engine, electronics and transmission arranged in a common box at rear axle height, which is a great first for an electric BMW.

The engine delivers 286 hp and above all 400 Nm, thanks to which the 0 to 100 km / h is shot in 6.8 seconds.

Top speed is limited to 180 km / h.

BMW has also taken care of recharging since the iX3 has a capacity of 150 kW at charging stations with direct current, which allows a charge from 0 to 80% in 34 minutes.

In other words, 10 minutes at the terminal allow you to recover 100 km of autonomy.

In use, the iX3 shows that BMW masters its subject as it is pleasant and well-born.

One would even be almost tempted to prefer it to the classic X3 because the center of gravity is here lowered by 7.5 cm, which clearly benefits the road behavior.

And good note in passing for the excellent soundproofing.

BMW iX3 - DR

On the realism side, you should know that the iX3 has a very efficient automatic regeneration system in town.

However, if the manufacturer announces a range of 460 km WLTP, it is better to count on 400 km real.

The BMW iX3 is available from € 69,950.
