Emirates Global Aluminum announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement to extend its partnership for an additional 10 years with Emirates Geocycle, a subsidiary of Lafarge Holcim, the largest group of building solutions in the world, to create value from industrial waste in the UAE.

Emirates Global Aluminum stated that it has been working with Lafarge Holcim since 2010 to find economic uses for the spent cell lining, materials resulting from the aluminum smelting process, which is one of the most important wastes in the aluminum industry.

She added that it had supplied Geocycle with more than 160,000 tons of used liners since 2010, which required nearly 3,000 truck trips between the two companies' facilities.

Emirates Global Aluminum will supply an additional 40,000 tons of used cell liners over the next two years, either to Geocycle or directly as pre-treated materials for Lafarge Holcim cement plant in Fujairah.

"The partnership with (Lafarge Holcim), (Emirates Geocycle) and local cement factories plays an important role in enabling us to convert the remnants of the aluminum industry into materials of economic value," said the CEO of Emirates Global Aluminum, Abdul Nasser bin Kalban.
