French administrations are generalizing dematerialized procedures.
However, it is sometimes useful, even essential, to contact an advisor directly.
However, unless you go to an agency, you previously had to pay a sometimes expensive telephone bill to query a public service.
In recent years, premium rate numbers have become the norm for reaching most administrations.
As the UFC Que-Choisir association recently recalled, the Allo public service platform, available at 39 39, was for example billed 0.15 euros / minute, against 0.05 euros / minute for the lines dedicated to payment. fines or 0.06 euros / minute for the 39 60, allowing you to contact the pension insurance.
No toll number for public services
But it is now only a bad memory thanks to the entry into force of one of the measures of the law for a State in the service of a trustworthy society, known as the Éssoc law, of August 10, 2018. The legislator has in fact prohibited administrations and bodies responsible for a public service mission from using a premium-rate telephone number to obtain information, take action or assert their rights, since January 1, 2021.
However, municipalities, departments and regions are not affected by this obligation and can therefore continue to use toll numbers.
If some public services, such as employment center or taxes, had already opted for free, others took the opportunity to clean their phone lines.
Like CAF, which replaced its ten-digit toll-free number with the new free number 32 30.
