As stated on the website of the Russian department, according to preliminary estimates, it amounted to 707 billion rubles.

"According to preliminary data of the Ministry of Finance of Russia, the regional budgets in 2020 were executed with a deficit of 707 billion rubles, of which 570 billion rubles are in 17 resource regions, as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg," the report says.

It is specified that more than 40% of the deficit was financed at the expense of free balances on the accounts of the regions, and 31% - at the expense of provided budget loans.

“The federal budget for 2021 provides 100 billion rubles for partial compensation for the lost income of the regions,” the ministry added.

At the same time, the Ministry of Finance clarified that based on the situation in the economy, issues of additional federal support for the regions will be considered.

In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the federal budget law for 2021 and for the planning period 2022-2023.
