Maruha Nichiro, a major fishery company, has announced that it will raise the price of some canned products by 30 yen per can from April, as the purchase price is rising due to the record poor catch of saury.

The prices will be raised for 4 items such as saury kabayaki and canned salt, and from April 1st, the price will be raised by 30 yen per can.

Of these,

▽ "

Saury Shioyaki

" has a reference retail price of 230 yen to 260 yen, and

▽ "Saury Kaba Yaki 3 cans shrink" has a reference retail price of 690 yen to 780 yen.

According to a summary of an industry group made up of Pacific saury fishermen, the amount of Pacific saury landed at domestic ports last year was the lowest ever, and the company cites a sharp rise in procurement prices as the reason for the price increase.

Maruha Nichiro raised the price of canned saury in April last year, which is the second consecutive year of price increases.

In addition, Nippon Suisan will raise the price of canned saury kabayaki to wholesalers by about 16% from the 1st of next month.

With the record poor catch of saury, there are concerns about the impact on the dining table at home.
