In order to stably secure ammonia, which is expected as a new fuel in the decarbonization era, Japan will proceed with research and development in cooperation with UAE = United Arab Emirates, which is rich in natural gas as its raw material. It was decided.

Ammonia produced from natural gas does not emit carbon dioxide even if it burns, so the government plans to expand its introduction as a fuel for thermal power generation, but technological innovation for stable securing and practical application is being made. It is an issue.

Under these circumstances, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama met with Jarbel, CEO of UAE's state-owned oil company, in a video conference format on the 14th, and signed a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

The UAE plans to hold an international conference that brings together R & D and experts to efficiently produce ammonia due to its abundant reserves of natural gas, which is the raw material for ammonia.

The United States and Australia are the main producers of ammonia, but Japan would like to cooperate with the Middle East region to build a stable supply network.
