Chinanews.com, January 13th. Farmers sell agricultural products through e-commerce. Has their actual income increased?

Zeng Yande, director of the Development Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, responded to this at a press conference held on the morning of the 13th.

Zeng Yande said that rural e-commerce is now a form of expanding the sales of agricultural products, which has greatly promoted the increase of farmers' income.

From the current point of view, among the income of farmers, operating income accounts for about 30%, and income from labor accounts for 45%. Household operating income mainly depends on the sale of agricultural products. Selling agricultural products through e-commerce has become a bright spot for farmers' income.

In 2019, the national agricultural product network sales approached 400 billion yuan, and live broadcast e-commerce quickly emerged. Many farmers sold their own agricultural products through short videos or live broadcasts, selling good prices and actively promoting farmers' income.

Looking at the future, e-commerce will have a greater role in promoting farmers' income.

First, the communication facilities have improved.

At present, the 4G network covers 98% of the administrative villages, including some of the current poor areas.

The next new infrastructure and 5G will also be extended to rural areas. We propose to extend to villages and cover households.

The improvement of these hardware facilities will provide great support for the development of agricultural products e-commerce.

Second, rural innovation and entrepreneurship have become more active.

There are many forms of innovation and entrepreneurship in rural areas. Many migrant workers who return to their hometowns start their own businesses, as well as scientific and technological personnel who go to the countryside to start their businesses.

At present, the number of entrepreneurs and innovation personnel in rural areas has exceeded 10 million for the first time, and a large part of them are developing new industries and new formats. This is an important force supporting the development of rural e-commerce industry.

Third, the logistics conditions in rural areas are better.

Fresh agricultural products, including some small and refined specialty products in remote areas, are now quickly and directly delivered to consumers through e-commerce networks.

Zeng Yande said that the development of e-commerce is showing a very good momentum. We firmly believe that with the acceleration of the construction of a "digital China" in the future, the rapid development of rural e-commerce will drive farmers' income and promote agricultural transformation and upgrading.
