Due to the severe supply and demand of electricity due to the cold weather, power development to supply electricity to major electric power companies is operating at a stopped thermal power plant in Nagasaki Prefecture using heavy oil instead of coal as a normal fuel. It was decided to take an unusual response.

Due to the increasing use of heating due to the severe cold, electricity demand is becoming severe in various places on the 12th.

Under these circumstances, Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. decided to operate Unit 2 of the "Matsushima Thermal Power Station" in Saikai City, Nagasaki Prefecture on the 14th, using heavy oil instead of coal, which is the usual fuel.

This power plant has been shut down since the 7th of this month due to a breakdown of the equipment that crushes the coal that is put into the boiler, but we decided to restart the operation because we can generate electricity using heavy oil as fuel.

The use of heavy oil is expected to reduce the power generation capacity to about half of the conventional 500,000 kW, but the company has taken an unusual approach to improve the supply and demand of electricity.
