French start-ups should have fled to Las Vegas, but they ended up staying at home in front of their computers.

The CES, the World Innovation Fair, a big rally for new technologies organized each year in the "city of vice", starts on Monday.

But this year, pandemic obliges, everything is virtual.

Presentations and business meetings by videoconference

Until Thursday, the 110 or so French start-ups selected for CES will be doing presentations and business meetings by videoconference, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., far from the frenzy of Las Vegas.

So, even if this new format is a dive into the unknown, for Emmanuel Lemor, of the startup LivingPackets, it was out of the question to miss CES.

"When it's a physical fair, there are guides to show the most interesting innovations of the year. There, I don't know how it's going to go. I don't know if we're going to have 3,000 people going. fall on us, or if we will see two people per hour, "he told Europe 1.

Professional meetings for a month

To bring out national nuggets, Business France, the body that structures the French delegation, has therefore coached start-ups "to be able to exist on digital platforms, with a system of keywords in particular, explains Éric Morand, director of digital department, so that their digital stand makes people want, with the right elements in English, well prepared documents, photos, videos and slides, ”he continues.

To help startups, the CES will continue beyond the four days, with the possibility of organizing meetings for a month, only between professionals.
