With 1.4 million copies sold in Europe over the first 3 generations, engineers and designers were under pressure when it came to renewing the Tucson.

And if, in such a situation, most of them choose the path of change in continuity, this is clearly not the case here!

The new model radically changes its style with, as a highlight, this daring front end where LED lights and grille blend without defined limits.

A design that the manufacturer even qualifies as experimental, which also results in more marked angular features.

This coupled with a more muscular overall look for more presence in traffic.

Touch touch

The interior adopts a design as original as the exterior, inspired by "waterfalls" in Hyundai's terms.

This one is especially characterized by its central console which gives up its mechanical controls to prefer tactile surfaces hidden under a black facade, as elegant as… sensitive to the fingerprints.

All of this is integrated into furniture whose quality of materials and assembly amaze us, at least in the high-end finish of our test model.

Enough to provide an almost premium atmosphere on board, especially since this central console is topped by a central screen enlarged to 10.25 inches, and combined with a customizable panel for displaying driving information.

The latter contains one of the technological innovations recently inaugurated by the new Kia Sorento, cousin of the Tucson: a system for monitoring blind spots by cameras in the mirrors, the image of which is displayed automatically when one of the blinkers.

Other advances include the presence of semi-autonomous driving, or parking maneuvers that can be performed from outside the vehicle from the Smartkey.

A "gadget" reserved until then for luxury brands.

In addition, there is also increased roominess: 20 mm longer, the new model releases an additional 26 mm at the knees of the rear passengers.

And the trunk gains 33 to 107l depending on the engine, with up to 620l behind the bench for the gasoline engine;

546l in the case of the 1.6l CRDi diesel model with 136 hp taken in hand.

Increasing prices

This engine, like the 1.6 T-GDI from 150, is equipped with a 48V light hybridization system, which provides more fluidity at low speed.

To these is added a "real" hybrid of 230 hp, before the arrival of a plug-in hybrid of 265 hp next spring.

In terms of road behavior, the Tucson has also changed.

What does not change is the comfort.

On the other hand, the Korean is more solid on his suspensions in the curves, which, combined with a firmer direction, brings much more feeling to the conduct than before.

And by adding a smooth and well-tuned gearbox, as well as extensive soundproofing, we repeat, the premium universe seems very close!

The whole thing is refined by a perfectly contained consumption: 5.7l / 100km during our test.

This fourth generation of Tucson therefore seems perfectly equipped to follow in the footsteps of the success of its predecessors.

Note, however, that to take full advantage of it, you will have to turn to the top-of-the-range Executive finish (some equipment is not available, even as an option, on the other finishes) at then steep prices: € 43,800 for our car. 'test.

The basic Tucson petrol is displayed at € 29,900.
