After contradictory statements from officials in recent weeks on the purchase of vaccine against Covid-19, the Iranian Supreme Leader has rejected the purchase of American and British vaccines.

In any case, according to official figures, Tehran has succeeded in controlling the epidemic by reducing the number to less than 100 deaths per day against more than 500 a few weeks ago.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has decided.

In a statement broadcast by state television, he spoke out against the American and British vaccines.

“

The entry of American and British vaccines is prohibited.

If the Americans had succeeded in producing a vaccine, we would not have witnessed this catastrophe in their own country.

A few days ago, in 24 hours, there were

4,000 deaths in their country.

If their Pfizer company can produce a vaccine why they want to give it to us.

Let them use it themselves so as not to have so many deaths

.

"

Not trust

The Iranian number one added that he does not trust the United States and the United Kingdom.

Some Iranian media suspect vaccine manufacturers of wanting to test them on populations in other countries.

However, the Iranian government announced that it had ordered nearly 17 million doses of vaccines from the Covax program set up by the World Health Organization without specifying the origin of these vaccines.

These vaccines could come from China, Russia or India.

Cooperation with Cuba

Tehran has also started human testing of a locally produced vaccine and cooperation with Cuba for the manufacture of a second vaccine.

But it will take several months before mass production.
