Small system, small price: With the Medion P64187, Aldi offers a versatile micro-audio system.

The footprint of the stereo system itself is hardly larger than a CD case, and at 18 centimeters wide and 20 centimeters deep, it should fit on any shelf.

The boxes supplied are even more space-saving at 12x13 centimeters.

However, the equipment is extensive and state-of-the-art, as the practical test by "Computer Bild" shows.

Medion P64187 with DAB +

With its few buttons and the large volume control, the Medion P64187 is uncomplicated.

However, the black key lettering is difficult to see on the shiny metallic front at an angle from above.

However, it is easy to remember where the important buttons for program selection and for skipping tracks or stations are located.

The built-in CD player is accessible from above via a simple hinged cover.

It also plays home-made music and MP3 CDs.

A simple wire antenna dangles from the rear wall of the system for radio reception.

If reception conditions are poor, it is best to place it at the window.

Great: In addition to the usual VHF radio programs, the small system also receives digital radio.

In many places, significantly more programs can be received via the DAB + standard than via FM, including interesting new stations.

There are no extra costs or registration required.

The small display shows the name of the station set and the title of the program or the current music as scrolling text in a second line.

The Medion system can also use Bluetooth

The Medion P64187 can also play music in MP3 format from USB sticks.

In addition to the USB port, there is a stereo input (Aux-In) for all imaginable players.

This can also be the television, for example.

The Medion system also has a headphone output, but it is on the back.

That would be more practical the other way around - headphones in the front and aux-in in the back.

The micro-audio system plays music from smartphone, tablet or computer wirelessly via Bluetooth.

After pairing the two devices once, they will find each other again later, the reconnection only took a moment in the practical test.

This is what the Medion P64187 sounds like

While the radio sound of the Medion P64187 seemed a bit thin and cool, it sounded a bit fuller and warmer with CDs, via Bluetooth and from USB storage devices.

In view of the small and lightweight speakers, you shouldn't expect fat bass, of course, but the volume of the system is sufficient, for example, to drown out kitchen work or the office printer.

In such an environment it is a reasonable alternative to old portable radios or radio recorders.

The micro stereo system Medion P64187 (MD 44087) will be available from Aldi from January 7, 2021, the price is 79.99 euros.
