Pharmaceutical Moderna rose just over 3 percent on Thursday afternoon after the opening of the stock exchanges in New York.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) gave its approval for the company's corona vaccine earlier in the afternoon.
Investors responded positively to that news.
The European Union has ordered a total of 160 million doses of the vaccine.
The first thirteen thousand doses of the vaccine will arrive in the Netherlands next week and many more will be delivered in the following weeks.
The Moderna vaccine has the advantage over the Pfizer shot that it can be stored at -20 degrees.
The Pfizer vaccine should be stored in -70 degree freezers.
In addition, the Moderna vaccine can be kept at refrigerator temperature for a month, while the Pfizer vaccine can be stored in the refrigerator for only five days after thawing.
