Snook and Eni announce the start of production of the Mahani gas field

The Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) and its partner, the National Hydrocarbon Agency (ENI), announced the start of production at the Mahani-1 gas well, thus starting gas production from the Mahani field in Area (B) in Sharjah, and this announcement comes within one year of the discovery of gas In the Mahani field, which represents the first new land discovery in Sharjah in 37 years.

Despite the challenges caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, including the difficulty of importing equipment during the general closure period and the difficulty of laying the pipeline in the harsh desert conditions in the summer, the construction of the well was completed and 23,000 meters of high-pressure pipes were extended in a record time of eight months. It is now connected to an existing pipeline and ready to safely produce gas and liquefied products from the Sajaa industrial plant owned and operated by SNOOC.

Commenting on the announcement, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), said: “The start of gas production in the Mahani field less than a year after its discovery is an amazing achievement for the Emirate of Sharjah, and it embodies our commitment and keenness to contribute to efforts to ensure reliable gas supplies. To meet local energy needs in Sharjah and the UAE. "

The Mahani-1 well was drilled at a total depth of 14597 feet, and gas was tested at flow rates of 50 million cubic feet per day with the associated condensate from the Thumama layer, and various factors combined to enable SNUK to achieve this achievement in record time, including the distinguished infrastructure. In Sharjah, the gas processing capacity of the Sajaa plant, the available pipeline network, well-planned project activities, and the enterprise's project management capabilities.

For his part, Executive Director of the Sharjah National Oil Corporation "Snook" Hatem Al-Mousa said: “The start of production in the first land discovery in Sharjah in nearly four decades marks the dawn of a new era for the Sharjah National Oil Corporation and the energy sector in Sharjah, and this comes only two years after completing the tour The license is the first in Sharjah, and we look forward to licensing additional areas in Sharjah in line with the emirate's strategic plans in the coming years. , A field development plan related to the required surface facilities, as well as an extensive well test, have been developed as part of a long-term program to assess the size and potential of the field. In addition to starting production at the Mahani field, the planned work program will include further drilling operations to determine the overall structure.

SNOC (the operating company for Area B) and Eni Agency shares ownership of the Mahani field at a rate of 50% each, according to the Area B concession agreement signed in 2019 after the first successful licensing round in Sharjah, and the two institutions also combine a partnership in the two onshore concession areas (A). And (c), where exploration operations are being conducted by Eni.

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC) was established in 2010 by an Emiri decree from the Ruler of Sharjah, and is charged with exploration, production, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of energy assets in the emirate, and in addition to the new Mahani field, SNOOC owns and operates more than 50 wells and gas processing complexes. There are two stations for storing and exporting liquid hydrocarbons, and the Sajaa area is the hub of the gas pipelines connecting the Northern Emirates.
