The federal government and local governments of the UAE spent an amount of 233 billion dirhams during the first nine months of the Corona pandemic (2020), of which 30.1 billion dirhams were subsidies compared to 20.7 billion dirhams during the same period in 2019, an increase of 9.3 billion dirhams. , Equivalent to a growth of 45.4%, according to the Ministry of Finance.

The ministry stated, in data obtained by Emirates Today, that the second quarter of last year recorded the highest value of financial aid, with a value of 15.7 billion dirhams, compared to 7.4 billion during the same quarter of 2019, meaning that the government doubled this item by nearly 100% to contain the repercussions. Despite the pandemic, government revenues recorded 246 billion dirhams, with a surplus of 13 billion in expenditures, according to government finance statistics data, which include the federal budget and local budgets for each emirate.

Government spending during the third quarter of 2020 alone amounted to 72.4 billion dirhams, compared to revenues of 67.7 billion dirhams, which shows an increase in government spending to support the reopening of markets and the continuation of commercial and economic activity after the closing period of the second quarter due to Corona.

The figures showed that compensation and salaries of state employees accounted for the largest share of government spending, amounting to 85 billion dirhams, equivalent to 36.5% of total expenditures.

And in second place, spending on goods and services, amounting to 58.7 billion dirhams, or 25.2%.

And in third place, government spending on social benefits amounted to 42 billion dirhams, accounting for 18%.

The financial aid that the UAE spent on the population recorded 30.1 billion dirhams, ranking fourth in the expenses item.

The remainder of the expenditures were distributed among grants, consumption of fixed capital, interest and other expenses.

On the revenue side, tax revenues contributed 74.4 billion dirhams, and the rest came from other revenues and community contributions.
