Song Yong, director of the Transportation Bureau, said at a press conference for the opening of the Yantong high-speed rail.

  Located in the north of Jiangsu, Yancheng is an old revolutionary base area, and the railway construction started relatively late.

In 2009, although Yancheng ranked among the 10 prefecture-level cities with open ports such as aviation and seaports, there was only one new long railway with a speed of 120 kilometers per hour opened in 2004.

It takes nearly 4 hours to take the Xin-Chang Railway train to the provincial capital Nanjing; there is no direct train to Shanghai.

The traffic blockage has kept Yancheng out of the economic radiation circle between Shanghai and Nanjing.

  Breaking the status of Yancheng as the “end of the railway” and changing the “dilemma” of the transportation of 8 million people in Yanfu has become the determined pursuit of successive Yancheng Municipal Committees and Municipal Governments.

The 7th Party Congress of Yancheng City in 2016 described a clear “High-speed Rail Dream”: speed up the construction of a “5+1” high-speed railway network that runs north-south, east-west, and internally and externally, and builds salt towards Beijing and Xi’an. Xu High-speed Railway, Lianhuaiyang Town Railway (Yanning High-speed Railway Link) to Nanjing, Yanlian Railway to Qingdao, Yantong High-speed Railway to Shanghai, Yantai-Xichang-Yi High-speed Railway to Hangzhou, and Yancheng Comprehensive Passenger terminal.

  Focusing on the above goals, Yancheng has always placed railway construction in a very prominent position, seized opportunities, made scientific decisions, and used the city's efforts to accelerate railway development, surpassing the "acceleration" of Yancheng railway construction in the new era.

  On December 26, 2018, the Lianyan Railway was completed and opened.

This is the first newly built railway in Yancheng with a target speed of 200 km/h or more.

Because of the opening of this railway, the three counties of Xiangshui, Binhai, and Sheyang ended the history of no trains.

  On December 16, 2019, the Xusu Huaiyan Railway, known as the "Golden Belt" of Jiangsu Railway, was completed and opened.

This is another milestone in the history of Yancheng transportation development.

After various efforts by Yancheng, the design speed of Xuyan Railway has changed from 160 km/h to 200 km/h, and finally to 250 km/h, which can be described as "a difficult journey".

  On December 11, 2020, the Yanning High-speed Railway was officially opened to traffic.

The first station of the Yanning high-speed rail train is Yancheng, passing through Huai'an, Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, and finally to Nanjing, with a total length of about 340 kilometers.

Before the opening of the Yanning high-speed rail, there were only three trains between Yancheng and Nanjing. Now two high-speed trains per day have been added, making it easier for the public to travel.

  On December 30, the Yantong High-speed Railway, which was constructed for nearly three years, was completed and opened to traffic.

The Yantong high-speed rail has a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and is the fastest high-speed rail link between Yancheng and Shanghai and southern Jiangsu.

The excitement of passengers taking the first train of the Yantong high-speed rail is beyond words.

  So far, the total railway mileage of Yancheng has reached 424 kilometers, including 267 kilometers of high-speed rail, and the anti-k-shaped high-speed rail network has taken shape.

  The Yancheng Comprehensive Passenger Transport Hub was built and used simultaneously with the Yantong High-speed Railway.

This is not only the central hub of high-speed railways such as Yanxu, Yanlian, Yantong, Yantai Xichangyi and other high-speed railways in Yancheng City, but also a variety of transportation methods such as the New Long Railway, long-distance buses, taxis, urban buses, and urban terminals. A comprehensive passenger transport hub that realizes "zero transfer".

  With the finalization of the plan to start the construction of the Yantai-Xiyuan-Changyi Railway in 2021, the Yancheng “5+1” high-speed railway network plan that runs north-south, east-west, and internally and externally connected has changed from a blueprint to reality.
