Dubai Chamber: The economy recovers in 2021

The Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hamad Buamim, said that there is optimism about the performance of the economy in the coming year 2021, stressing that the economic recovery has received a strong impetus with the start of the adoption of vaccines and the transformation of international trade into an essential part of global efforts to consolidate the foundations of international cooperation.

In a message addressed to representatives of the private sector and leaders of the business community in Dubai, which was obtained by Emirates Today, he pointed out that “the state of optimism for the performance of the economy in 2021 is accompanied by several indicators, as we see a focus on future economic sectors such as smart services, technology, space and food industries, and an increasing investment in sectors. Traditional tourism, trade and logistics, "he said, pointing out that entrepreneurship, sustainability and innovation have become basic pillars in the business environment.  

Buamim said that these indicators are matched by an exceptional global event hosted by Dubai, represented by the Expo 2020 Dubai, which will chart the future of innovation and growth, and make the Emirate of Dubai a model for economic development in the post-Covid-19 era.

Buamim congratulated the Chamber's partners in the private sector for the new year, noting that the year 2020 witnessed challenges imposed by the emerging Corona virus (Covid-19) crisis on the business sector, which changed many concepts and practices in the global business community.

Referring to the success in mitigating the repercussions of the pandemic and ensuring the continuity and sustainability of business, joint efforts have also contributed to transforming Dubai into a model for cities that opened their economies successfully and responsibly.

He pointed out that exceptional measures, qualitative initiatives, modern legislation and incentive packages were the most prominent elements that distinguish Dubai in mitigating the repercussions of the crisis, and these measures varied to include re-launching the events and conferences sector, opening doors for tourists, introducing amendments to bankruptcy laws and commercial companies, and launching a "virtual work program" In addition to announcing incentive packages to reduce the cost of doing business and facilitate procedures.

He explained that the public-private partnership was the most important factor in our success in reducing the effects of Covid-19 on the business community, and enhancing investor and private sector confidence in the business environment in the emirate.
