In a survey of office demand among companies in the 23 wards of Tokyo, the percentage of companies that answered "I want to move to a building with lower rent" increased significantly from the previous year and became the highest.

As the outlook is uncertain due to the impact of the new coronavirus, it seems that more and more companies are trying to reduce costs.

This survey was conducted by Mori Building, a major real estate company, from October to November, targeting approximately 10,000 companies with headquarters in the 23 wards of Tokyo, and received responses from more than 1,700 companies.

According to this, there were 415 companies, which is a quarter of the companies planning to change the location and area of offices in the future.

When asked why, the percentage of companies that answered "I want to move to a building with low rent" was 37%, which was a large increase from 19% in the previous year, while it was the first in the previous year. “Personnel expansion” was 14%, a significant decrease from 44% in the previous year.

Of the companies that plan to change the location and area of their offices, 42% of the companies answered that the area is "planned to shrink", which is higher than 33% of "planned to expand". The movement to do has become stronger.

Although the companies surveyed vary depending on the type of industry, we believe that an increasing number of companies are trying to reduce costs due to the uncertain outlook for the economy and business performance due to the effects of the new coronavirus.
