(Year-end Economic Observation) Why does the express industry buck the trend and hit a new high of 80 billion pieces in 2020?

China News Agency, Beijing, December 26 (Reporter Liu Yuying) In the first half of the year, China's express delivery industry "revenged growth" due to the impact of the epidemic in the first half of the year, with its business volume exceeding 80 billion for the first time.

Supporting growth against the trend is new momentum.

This year, the growth rate of express delivery business has experienced a transition from negative to positive, and then back to the high range.

Affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic in January, express delivery business volume ran at a low level in January, showing a negative growth for the first time.

The express delivery industry recovered rapidly in February and turned to positive growth.

Entering the second quarter, the resumption of work and production across the country continued to advance, and the growth rate of express delivery business has accelerated significantly, returning to more than 30%.

Now, the postal express industry has basically gotten rid of the impact of the epidemic. The daily average of 300 million pieces has become the norm, and the average daily service users have exceeded 400 million.

This week, the annual business volume of China's express delivery industry exceeded 80 billion pieces for the first time.

In September, the express delivery business volume increased by 44.6% year-on-year; October increased by 43%; November increased by 36.5%, both higher than the business volume growth in 2018 and 2019.

Taking the 80 billionth express in 2020 as an example, the reporter learned that this express was sent from Yanergu Village, Luotian County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province. It was a local specialty purchased by a doctor in Luotian County. The aid doctors in Changsha City expressed their gratitude in this way.

The express delivery from the village benefited from the "Express Delivery into the Village" project launched by the State Post Bureau in early 2020.

On June 13 this year, SF Express cooperated with Luotian County Government to build a demonstration site for express delivery into villages in Yan'er Valley, opening up the "last mile" of express delivery services in rural areas.

According to the staff of the express outlet, in the four months since its opening, more than 5,800 orders have been received, mainly local agricultural products sold by e-commerce companies, including brown rice, chestnuts, sweet persimmons, eggs, small sweet potatoes, etc., and the goods are shipped out 18 tons, realizing "agricultural products go up, industrial products go down".

After the express delivery entered the village, the local logistics cost dropped significantly.

According to Xu Zhixin, secretary of the Yanergu Joint Party Committee, due to long-term traffic constraints, the cost of high-quality agricultural and sideline products into cities is relatively high, and it is difficult for farmers to increase income.

After the establishment of SF Express outlets, the logistics cost of agricultural and sideline products has dropped by 30%-40%.

State Post Bureau Director Ma Junsheng said in September that only about 40% of express parcels can actually enter the village.

The rest need farmers to go to the village to pick them up.

Based on 22 billion parcels in rural areas, 15 billion parcels need to be picked up by farmers in towns and villages.

Ma Junsheng hopes to achieve "express delivery into the village" in three years.

In 2020, on the basis of express delivery "there are outlets in the township and township", Hubei Province will achieve 76% of the administrative villages directly invested in the villages.

Hong'an County, Huanggang City, Hubei Province this year exported nearly 800,000 agricultural products through delivery channels, with sales reaching 30 million yuan (RMB, the same below), benefiting 320 farmers and 13 poor households, with an average annual income increase of 30,000 yuan.

Farmers' poverty alleviation and income increase have also promoted local consumer demand. Third- and fourth-tier cities and rural markets have become new growth points for online shopping.

During this year's "Double Eleven" period, 63% of new users on the JD platform came from sinking emerging markets.

Against the backdrop of the strong recovery of China's macroeconomic economy, consumption has recovered, the manufacturing boom has increased, and international competitiveness has become stronger. "Express delivery to factories" is another new driving force for the growth of the express delivery industry.

This year, Hubei Province's "express delivery into factories" service manufacturing industry has driven 296 million pieces of express delivery business, driven 845 million yuan in express delivery revenue, and supported Hubei Province's textile, paper, printing, automotive, food, computer and other manufacturing industries to reach 14.8 billion yuan in output value.

According to the State Post Bureau, in the first 11 months of this year, the express delivery industry supported more than 1.7 trillion yuan in industrial products going to the countryside and agricultural products going to cities.

At present, the volume of parcel delivery in China exceeds that of developed economies such as the United States, Japan and Europe combined, and its contribution to the growth of the world's express delivery industry exceeds 50%.
