A bowl of steaming Liuzhou snail noodles, with a "smelly" fragrance, rich ingredients, one mouthful.

In just five years, this bowl of noodles has become a “net celebrity” industry with production and sales exceeding 10 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) from the old roadside stalls, which has driven tens of thousands of poor local households out of poverty and become rich.

Walking into the Liuzhou Snail Noodle Industrial Park in Guangxi, bursts of peculiar smell of snail noodles came to the nose, and workers were busy packing boxes of snail noodles for delivery.

More than 1.8 million bags of snail noodles are sent from here to all over the country every day.

Snail noodles were originally a local snack popular on the streets of Liuzhou.

In 2014, bagged Liuzhou snail noodles were launched, and the Internet was used to "circulate noodles" at home and abroad.

Liuzhou Vice Mayor Meng Qipeng said that as of December 17, the production and sales of bagged Liuzhou snail flour reached 10.5 billion yuan, with a daily output of up to 3.25 million bags and exported to more than 20 countries and regions.

With the rapid growth of the snail powder industry, the demand for raw materials such as beans, sour bamboo shoots, and snails for making snail powder has increased sharply.

“Taking 10 grams of snail meat for a bag of snail powder as an example, based on the highest average daily output of 3.25 million bags, 32.5 tons of snails are needed a day.” said Jia Jiangong, deputy director of the Liuzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

In order to meet the needs of the rapid development of the snail powder industry and help farmers achieve poverty alleviation and increase income, Liuzhou has built a batch of raw material production bases for snail powder such as snails, beans, and sour bamboo shoots in various counties and districts, and innovated "cooperative + base + farmer" "company + base" +Cooperatives + Farmers" poverty alleviation model.

Walking into the pickling area of the sour bamboo shoots of Baisha Sour Plant in Yufeng District, you can see that there are barrels of pickled sour bamboo shoots.

Huang Yanzhi, the general manager of Baisha Acid Factory, is a local farmer. In 2016, he devoted himself to the processing of raw snail powder.

"Unexpectedly, the snail noodle industry has developed so fast. Our products have been in short supply. In 2019, the output value exceeded 14 million yuan." Huang Yanzhi said.

At present, Baisha Acid Factory has developed more than 6000 acres of bean base, introduced new varieties to plant more than 3000 acres of bamboo shoots, and cooperated with agricultural professional cooperatives to establish "poverty alleviation workshops", driving more than 900 farmers in 12 villages in Liyong and Baisha towns, including poor More than 300 households grow beans.

Huang Rongke, a villager in Gucheng Village in Liuzhou City, was originally a poor household. He grew sugarcane for his livelihood. Later, he replanted beans. The income was high and he had no worries about sales.

The Liuzhou Municipal Government has included the raw materials of snail powder such as beans and bamboo shoots in the reward and supplement project, and guided farmers to develop raw materials of snail powder to enhance the "hematopoiesis" function of poor families.

Liunan District implements the “reward for subsidy” mechanism to encourage the public to participate in the construction of the snail powder bamboo shoot base, with subsidies ranging from 700 yuan to 2,000 yuan per mu.

Yufeng District has included the raw materials of snail powder such as beans and bamboo shoots in the awards and supplements. In 2019, the planting area of beans and bamboo shoots will be increased by more than 3,000 mu and more than 500 mu.

Today, the raw material planting and breeding scale in Liuzhou has reached more than 500,000 mu.

"These have driven more than 200,000 farmers in the raw material base, including about 23,000 poor households, with an average annual income increase of more than 9,000 yuan per capita." Jia Jiangong said.

Through industrial integration and development, Liuzhou has also created a characteristic town of snail noodles with a complete industrial chain of planting (raising), processing, production and sales.

A few days ago, Liunan District held a small town cultural festival with snails and snails, which attracted tens of thousands of tourists through music festivals, snail contests, and snail banquets.
