Emirates SkyCargo Company has achieved a new achievement by transferring the first shipment of "Covid-19" vaccines produced by "Pfizer-BioNTech" to the UAE, for the benefit of the Dubai Health Authority.

A statement issued yesterday stated that the vaccines were transported from Brussels on Emirates Airlines flight EK 182, which landed at 11:15 pm the day before yesterday at Dubai International Airport.

First shipment

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chief Executive Officer and CEO of Emirates Airlines and the Group said: “Emirates Airlines is proud to transfer the first shipment of (Pfizer - Biontech) vaccine for the (Covid-19) pandemic to the UAE, for the benefit of the Health Authority in Dubai ».

His Highness affirmed that "the health care community has made important contributions in all stages of facing the pandemic, extending his thanks to all those who have continued to work tirelessly during the past year, to protect the lives of the people most vulnerable to infection."

His Highness added: "In recognition of their great contributions to the safety and well-being of the UAE society, we have been honored to transfer these vaccines for free on one of our trips."

For his part, Nabil Sultan, Senior Vice President of Emirates Airlines for the Cargo Department, said: “(Emirates Air Cargo) supports Dubai's efforts to confront the (Covid-19) pandemic, and thanks to our leadership that has efficiently and effectively dealt with the pandemic, our city has retained its position as a global logistical center for cargo transportation. »Vital, including personal protective equipment, medical supplies, vaccines, food, and other essential products.

The statement stated that upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, the shipment was unloaded and transported urgently, to "Sky Pharma", the "Emirates Air Cargo" building designated for handling medicines and vaccines, to be cleared and delivered.

"Emirates SkyCargo" confirmed that it is using the experiences it has gained during the past two decades in transporting vaccines and pharmaceutical products, whose temperature is controlled on its aircraft, and has developed an infrastructure that holds European accreditation to store and handle drug shipments in Dubai.

The carrier has also launched a "drug corridors" program, as it cooperates with ground handling companies and local airports in major drug manufacturing and production centers around the world to protect shipments while in transit.

The program now covers more than 30 cities, including Brussels.

Emirates SkyCargo recently established the largest air facility in the world to store and distribute Covid-19 vaccines in Dubai.

The capacity of this facility is estimated at 10 million vials of vaccine at once, in an environment with a constant temperature between two and eight degrees Celsius.
