Professor Chen Qingxi, an expert on the technical system of modern fruit industry in Fujian Province and the dean of the College of Horticulture of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, said in an interview that by continuing to promote the construction of a modern fruit industry technology system, the small passion fruit has evolved into a large industry.
In fact, Fujian introduced passion fruit from Taiwan in the 1980s, but soon suffered from stalk rot.

In 2017, Fujian officially issued the "Opinions of the People's Government of Fujian Province on Accelerating the Development of the Seven Advantages of Agricultural Industries", which listed passion fruit as one of the key tasks for agricultural development in Fujian Province.
According to the official decision, in accordance with the development idea of “variety leading, quality improvement, and brand building”, the construction of the modern agricultural fruit (passion fruit) industrial technology system in Fujian Province will be launched, and the passion fruit industry technology innovation team will be formed. Chen Qingxi introduced that with the focus on new passion fruit varieties, new technologies, and industrial chain upgrades, more than 30 passion fruit germplasm resources have been collected and preserved, and 12 technologies have been integrated to demonstrate and promote the Fujian passion fruit one-year cultivation model. There are 16 passion fruit cultivation demonstration bases in Fujian, with a promotion area of 1,700 acres, and a radiation drive of 39,300 acres; consumer demand-oriented development of 5 passion fruit processing products, providing powerful technology to promote the overall upgrade of the industrial chain and accelerate industrial development support.
“Perhaps there is no fruit that is more adaptable and has a better effect on poverty alleviation than passion fruit.” Chen Qingxi, who has been researching fruit for more than 30 years, said that passion fruit has become an effective means for precise poverty alleviation in rural Fujian. Since 2017, Chen Qingxi has gone deep into the front line of enterprises and villages to provide training and guidance for the majority of enterprise fruit growers, and provide technical support for cultivation, disease and pest control, and technically guarantee the output of high-quality passion fruit.
Chen Qingxi said that he hopes to make use of the good features of passion fruit in poverty alleviation to help the villages to get rid of poverty accurately and to revitalize the villages.
In Wuping County, Longyan City, Fujian Province, relying on the Fujian Fruit Industry Technology System and the technical support of experts from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University and the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wuping Youda Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. built the county’s first standardized passion fruit seedling base. Establish 600 acres of passion fruit (golden fruit) planting demonstration base and 250 acres of Wuping passion fruit export base, and promote high-yield, high-quality, non-toxic passion fruit seedlings and standardized planting management models based on the "company + base + farmer" model.
