Wine popularization is happening rapidly.

Wine is gaining popularity among consumers, surpassing beer in some hypermarkets and ranking first in sales.

According to the distribution industry, as a result of analyzing E-Mart's liquor sales from January to the 13th of this month, the proportion of wine ranked first with 27.7%.

Last year was the first time that wine made up the largest share of sales by type at E-Mart, and the same trend continued this year.

Domestic beer accounted for 25.2% of the total liquor sales, maintaining the second place following last year, and soju ranked third with 17.1%, overtaking imported beer.

Imported beer (15.9%) fell to fourth place.

An official from E-Mart said, "This is the result of the successful popularization of wine through extensive promotions at various retailers such as large marts and convenience stores throughout the year," and said, "The spread of the atmosphere of enjoying various alcoholic beverages at home with Corona 19 also affected."

At Lotte Mart, domestic beer accounted for 27.2% of total liquor sales from January to the 17th of this month, but wine was good enough to show the same share (19.8%) as imported beer.

A Lotte Mart official said, "There are many cases where consumers try to drink new liquors such as wine and liquor."

The promotion of low- and mid-priced wines so that consumers can easily open their wallets was the main thing.

In the wake of the boycott of Japanese products since last year, consumption of Japanese beer declined, which also affected the sales of imported beer.

From January to the 13th of this month, wine (32.4%), Western liquor (31.3%), domestic beer (25.1%), and soju (3.4%) at E-Mart increased in sales compared to the same period last year, but imported beer (-19.2%). ) Decreased.

It was similar in Lotte Mart and convenience store CU.

An official from E-Mart explained, "Generally, the products that accounted for the largest portion of imported beer sales were Japanese beers such as Asahi."

According to the Korea Customs Service, the amount of Japanese beer imported in November was 562 tons, which was less than 10% of the same month (5,734 tons) in 2018, before the boycott.
