Regarding the accident where a cargo ship ran off the coast of Mauritius, an island country in the Indian Ocean, MOL, which was chartering the ship, said that the cause of the accident was presumed that the necessary sea map was not provided on board. We have summarized measures to prevent recurrence, such as strengthening staff education.

Off the coast of Mauritius, in July, a cargo ship chartered by MOL ran ashore and a large amount of heavy oil spilled into the sea where coral reefs spread, causing serious environmental pollution.

Regarding this accident, MOL announced on the 18th the probable cause of the accident and measures to prevent recurrence.

According to this, the cargo ship entered the range of the mobile phone on the day of the stranded land, so it ran ashore in an attempt to change course to the coast about 2 miles.

The presumed cause of the accident is

that the cargo ship is approaching shallow water because ▽

only a small-scale nautical chart is provided inside the ship, and

▽ the crew on duty also neglected radar and visual monitoring. I mentioned that I could not grasp.

The company has invested a total of about 500 million yen as a measure to prevent recurrence

, and in addition to educating crew members so that they can handle electronic charts of various scales,

▽ a system to support safe operation from land. It is supposed to be strengthened.

MOL says, "We will build a system that can steadily confirm the implementation of recurrence prevention measures and continue to work on improving safety and quality."
