To realize a carbon-free society, the government has decided on a plan to introduce offshore wind power generation, which is positioned as one of the main power sources in the future.

By 2040, the power generation capacity will be converted to a large thermal power plant and expanded to more than 30 units.

To achieve its goal of zero greenhouse gas emissions overall by 2050, the government has positioned offshore wind as one of its future flagship sources.

On the 15th, a future introduction plan was decided at a meeting attended by government and manufacturer personnel.

According to it, it aims to increase the power generation capacity from 10 million kW by 2030 and from 30 to 45 million kW by 2040.

This is a calculation that is equivalent to 30 or more units in terms of a large thermal power plant.

In addition, the industry is also saying that the cost of "implantation type" wind power generation, which fixes the base of the wind turbine to the seabed, will be significantly reduced from 8 yen to 9 yen per kilowatt hour, which is lower than the current thermal power generation.

Offshore wind power has tens of thousands of parts and many related industries, so the government wants to attract investment by showing numerical targets and promote the development of industries.

At the conference, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kajiyama said, "We will grow offshore wind power generation into a next-generation industry that can survive international competition. It is not easy to realize, but we will do our best to support it." We emphasized the idea of promoting support from such sources.
