Even the box of the Medion P85003 (MD 85008) is impressive, but the contents are even more astonishing.

The micro-audio system consists of two loudspeaker boxes and a control unit - that's plenty of material for the money.

A remote control is just as much part of the delivery as speaker cables.

In view of the price, expectations were rather subdued before the “Computer Bild” test, which made the system all the more surprising - in several respects.

Medion P85003 in the test: good workmanship

The two loudspeaker boxes of the Medion P85003 are simple but cleanly made.

The fabric cover adheres magnetically and can be removed with one hand.

A silver woofer and a smaller tweeter emerge above it.

In this price range, broadband loudspeakers are usually more common, where a single driver has to do all the work from low to high frequencies.

The speaker cables supplied are each 1.40 meters long.

That is enough for the installation on the shelf and for small rooms.

If necessary, the cables can be exchanged for longer standard goods thanks to the universal connection terminals on the boxes and on the control unit.

When looking at its back, the user is initially puzzled: Apart from the speaker terminals and the power supply socket, there are no other connections.

And that's a good thing, because a stereo input, headphone output and USB port are conveniently located on the front.

It's not made of nicely painted plastic, but of three millimeter thick aluminum - astonishing for this price range.

There is no coarse-pixel LED display behind the dark-tinted panel after switching on, but a large color display - also not bad for the money.

Full program in astonishing quality

The variety of programs in the stereo system can also be seen - or better heard -: radio reception works with the Medion P85003 via FM, DAB + and the Internet.

The connection to the home WiFi router works simply by pressing the router's WPS button.

Podcasts are also available on the Internet.

A CD player is built in which also played MP3 CDs in the test.

Music can also be played from USB storage media, as well as from smartphones, tablets and computers via Bluetooth.

Operation does not pose any major puzzles; the understandable operating instructions will help if you have any questions.

And after the first few bars of music, users are amazed once more: The small system sounds really clean and balanced, with natural voices and not too deep, but not too booming, bass.

The sound can be adjusted as required in the system's settings menu, but this is not necessary - the sound fits carefully with both speakers at the same height and with one or two hand's widths of space to the rear wall.

When the volume is fully turned up, the speakers won't shake the walls, but the maximum volume is enough to properly celebrate your favorite tracks.

Conclusion:

The Medion P85003 micro audio system is hard to beat in terms of price-performance ratio.

Aldi Nord will sell the system from December 14, 2020 for just 129 euros.

At this price, other manufacturers sell measly mono radios or small Bluetooth boxes that don't stand a chance in a sound comparison and certainly can't keep up in terms of versatility.

Aldi also sells the Medion P66024, a compact stereo system for 149 euros.

This can also be done by Spotify Connect, but does not play podcasts and sounds less balanced.
