Al Falasi: The UAE attracted 27 million visitors and became a global tourist destination in a short period of time

Following the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the domestic tourism strategy and the unified tourism identity of the UAE, a joint meeting was held to discuss prospects and opportunities for domestic tourism at the state level, attended by the Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Hamid Belhoul Al Falasi, who answered the questions of the editors-in-chief of local newspapers and heads of local and regional channels, and was organized by the Media Office of the UAE government.

Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Hamid Belhoul Al Falasi said, "The UAE, which in a short period has become a global tourist destination, has attracted more than 27 million visitors, and is full of opportunities, especially in the field of domestic tourism."


He stressed that «the domestic tourism strategy, announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, supports the achievement of a diversified economy based on innovation and exploration of opportunities in various emerging sectors, and strengthens sources of income and supports the activation of economic resources, and availability New job opportunities within the tourism sector, until reaching the list of the top 10 global tourist destinations and first in the world as the best promotional tourism identity by 2030.

And he indicated that the adoption of a unified tourist identity constitutes an umbrella that encourages tourism investment and strengthens the contribution of tourism to the GDP, which reached 11.9% in 2019, raising it to 15% during the next decade and doubling the numbers of domestic tourists up to twice during the next decade.


Al Falasi stressed the importance of working on an integrated program for tourism investment, in cooperation between the various stakeholders, economic actors, investors, entrepreneurs and owners of emerging, small and medium enterprises to continue building capacities in this vital sector and organizing it and consolidating the unified Emirati tourism identity as part of the media identity of the UAE and its resilient and renewable economic system .

The meeting witnessed a review of the achievements of the UAE in the field of tourism, and its distinguished position in the list of 12 countries that attracted more than 10 million visitors during the last decade.


The meeting also discussed the existing and future opportunities for the domestic tourism sector, whose contribution to the domestic product reached 23% during the year 2019, which opens the door wide for economic activities to invest in its various opportunities, given the rate of the contribution of domestic tourism, which reaches up to 70% in some countries of the world. .


The meeting reviewed a number of tourism sector indicators in the UAE for the year 2019 issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council, including its contribution to providing 745,000 jobs and receiving more than 32 million guests in 2019, with a hotel occupancy rate of 73%.
