The third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex in Dubai is one of the largest solar energy projects in the world, with a production capacity of 800 megawatts, using photovoltaic solar panels, and providing clean energy to more than 240,000 homes in Dubai.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority implemented the third phase of the complex according to the Independent Energy Product System, in partnership with the consortium led by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and the French “EDF” group, through its affiliate, EDF Energy Novell, with investments amounting to 3.47 billion dirhams.

This is the first stage of its kind in the MENA region that uses a uniaxial solar tracking system to increase energy productivity, which increases energy production from the photovoltaic station, compared to installations that adopt fixed technologies, in addition to other innovative technologies that include cleaning solar panels using Robots to raise the efficiency of the plant.

DEWA set a new world record in the cost of solar photovoltaic energy, after obtaining the lowest global price of $ 2.99 per kilowatt hour with the independent product system.

"Shuaa Energy 2" was established to implement the project under the independent product system. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority owns 60% of the company, Masdar 24%, and EDF with EDF Energy Novell holds 16%.

It is noteworthy that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex is the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world, with a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, with investments amounting to 50 billion dirhams.

The capacity of the solar energy projects that were operated in the complex is 1013 megawatts with photovoltaic solar panels, and the authority has projects with a capacity of 1850 megawatts under implementation with the two technologies of photovoltaic panels and concentrated solar energy.
