Citroën C4 -

DR

Like many car lovers in the broad sense, I am a fan of Citroën for what the brand has brought to this small world.

And I am perhaps more because of its stylistic audacity than for its tradition of avant-garde technologies

To wear

All this to say that I am not easily shocked by the look of a Citroën, on the contrary.

Yet I admit that a few months ago, when I discovered the first images of the new C4, I said to myself "Youille-yille, a little far, perhaps. Especially the rear part."

But cars are like people: there are photogenic ones, and there are others.

In my humble opinion, the new C4 is one of the others, and it really deserves to be appreciated "for real".

Of course it remains original, astonishing.

This telescoping of the codes of the classic compact and the crossover, these few details of the stern, it can destabilize.

But as long as we have not too conservative tastes, we end up appreciating.

To wear and tear.

The interior also has its share of originality, and especially new ideas.

There is the steering wheel with large central part which evokes certain Citroëns of the past, there is an automatic gearbox control summarized with a pull-button, or the digital dashboard which swims against the current trends, while maintaining very dimensions. compact but sufficient to display everything you need, without the frills.

Warning, drum roll: the C4 is the first car of the PSA group (excluding Opel) to finally hear a criticism tirelessly addressed to recent Citroëns and Peugeot.

Here, we are finally celebrating the big comeback… separate air conditioning controls.

No more having to go through the screen to change the temperature or adjust the air flow.

The new idea?

Facing the passenger, in addition to the glove box, there is a storage drawer large enough to accommodate a tablet.

Shelf that can be fixed to the retractable anchor point.

It's not much, it's nothing vital, but it's so well thought out, and such a "connected generation"!

Finally, the new C4 is a real compact family, whose rear seats can easily accommodate three adults, and provided with a trunk certainly not record but in the average, with 380 liters under shelf.

ë-C4

The new C4 and the first Citroën to benefit from the PSA "multimode" platform, on which the Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa and DS3 Crossback are already based.

Like the latter, the C4 is therefore offered with the 1.2 petrol from 100 to 155 hp, the 1.5 diesel 100 and 130 hp, and of course in a 100% electric 136 hp version.

It announces a range of 350 km in the WLTP cycle (rather, count 300 km in real life without paying too much attention), and recharging times ranging from 10km / min on a 100 kW fast terminal, to 100% in 24 hours on a domestic socket. , going through 100% in 5 hours on a three-phase 32A Wallbox.

Of course, this shared platform presents a Citroën specificity here, namely the now famous suspensions with progressive hydraulic stops, delivered as standard on all versions.

The rest, you probably see it coming ...

It starts with C

Because it's getting rare and maybe it's over soon, we tried a diesel version of the C4, and the ë-C4, obviously.

Either way, guess what comes out brilliantly first?

Well yes, the comfort.

Now it comes down to every Citroën test: the current range is absolutely unbeatable in this area, and the new C4 still seems to get things going.

From the seats to the damping through the softness of the steering and soundproofing (necessarily even more in value in the electric version), it offers deliciously padded comfort.

It ripples on bad surfaces like a ... Come on, dare I?

Yes: like a good Mercedes.

This soft cushion side does not mean that the car is pitching in the bends like a container ship in a storm, far from it.

But it is clear that Citroën made a very assumed choice, and that the C4 therefore has no sporting-dynamic pretension.

Citroën C4 - DR

Because it is formidably comfortable and because it is probably the most original model of the current range, André Citroën would certainly have validated the new C4.

And who are we to contradict an automotive legend?

The new Citroën C4 starts at € 20,900
