While INEOS announced the start of production of its 2022 Grenadier 4X4, the group was looking to acquire a factory.
This is now done with the takeover of the Smart production site located in Hambach.
The agreement with Daimler nevertheless provides that the electric Smart will still be produced there, as well as parts for Mercedes, alongside the Grenadier assembly lines.

Hambach is an ideal production site for Grenadier.
It is one of the most modern automobile production sites in Europe.
It benefits from a competent and highly experienced workforce, shows excellent results among Mercedes factories due to the quality of its production, and has recently benefited from a large investment which enables it to manufacture vehicles of larger size.
In addition, the site is located on the border between France and Germany, just 200 km from Stuttgart, which offers ideal access to supply chains, automotive talent and target markets.

This commitment, associated with INEOS forecasts for Grenadier, results in the creation of around 1,300 jobs in Hambach, a figure including the subcontractors on site.
Dirk Heilmann, Chairman and CEO of INEOS Automotive, commented:

In addition to the extensive testing program that our prototypes are currently undergoing, we can now begin preparations in Hambach to produce our 4X4 by the end of next year to deliver to our customers worldwide.
