Cdiscount launched its Cdiscount Occasion platform on Wednesday.

The French e-commerce site is thus opening up to the sale of second-hand items in all categories: high-tech, video games, toys, fashion, DIY, books, decoration, etc.

Only large products such as furniture are not offered, reports

.

"We are working […] to allow our ten million customers to sell objects they no longer use on one side, and on the other to buy them," explained Cdiscount CEO Emmanuel Grenier.

A circular and responsible economy

On this new platform, users will be able to pay securely with a virtual wallet.

Delivery will take place in one of the 9,000 Mondial Relay points in France.

As on Vinted, the platform will charge 0.70 euros per item as well as a commission of 5% of the price.

The French giant has been working for a number of years for a circular and responsible economy.

“We have reduced our carbon footprint in the supply chain by working on packaging and trucks,” explains the CEO.

We recycle products that come back from customers by selling or giving them away.

"

Cdiscount thus competes with LeBonCoin, Rakuten, eBay or even Cash Converters or Easy Cash stores.

To successfully enter this new market, the group relies on its 22 million unique visitors every month.

Second-hand purchases are very popular in France.

According to a study published on Tuesday, 85.9% of French people buy second-hand products.
