Technologies are introduced to reduce operating costs for farmers around the world

"Microsoft": Food Security Top of Gulf Priorities Due to "Corona"

Laila Sarhan: "Cooperation between (Microsoft) and (LinkedIn) to prepare young people in the region for the job market."

The director of the public sector at Microsoft, Laila Sarhan, said that "the Corona crisis placed food security at the top of the priorities for the Gulf countries," noting that the UAE was one of the first countries to take advantage of the crisis to support the trend towards improving the agricultural sector.

In statements to Emirates Today, she emphasized that the company uses artificial intelligence techniques to find agricultural solutions to increase agricultural production, and to make recommendations that enable farmers to rationalize water use, check soil quality and make agriculture more sustainable.

Sarhan expects that these technologies will reduce the operational cost for farmers around the world, as the farmer can know the percentages of nutrition in the soil and know the pests expected to attack the crop.

She pointed out that the studies related to the Corona crisis revealed that the number of the poor will increase during the coming period, which requires technical solutions that contribute to increasing agricultural production to feed these poor people, especially as the area of agricultural land has become limited and the quantities of water have become insufficient.

She explained that the solutions for the agricultural sector from "Microsoft" provide the farmer with all the information on land, weather and soil, and all information is dealt with to give the best solutions for the farms to improve the quality of the private farm to give the best productivity at the lowest cost.

Sarhan said that it is expected that the company, in cooperation with the "LinkedIn" network, will train and assist young people in the Middle East region, as these young people will be qualified for the labor market by giving them training courses related to these fields, and they will obtain documented certificates approved by "Microsoft" .

She pointed out that "Microsoft" provides new solutions related to the camel breeding sector through technologies that harness the capabilities of technology in raising camels, especially those that are used in racing, and it is the same technology that it uses with horses by improving their lifestyle, physical performance and protection from diseases.

She pointed out that the innovation was designed based on several technologies, such as machine learning, computer vision, and advanced analytics, as innovation creates an integrated system that allows camels to be monitored around the clock by tracking their lifestyle, starting from the health, nutrition, sleep and training system, to behavior and breeding method. And potential diseases, in addition to the ability to detect external stress factors, contribute to a radical change that helps to achieve a significant reduction in the mortality rate of camels.
