A spirit of optimism at Loewe: Almost exactly a year ago, Loewe had to close its factory gates and lay off all employees.

That looked final.

But at the turn of the year 2019/2020, Skytech took over the traditional manufacturer, rented part of the old company building again and brought employees back.

They quickly resumed production and tackled new developments.

The first product of this new era is the Loewe Bild V. The “Computer Bild” test reveals what distinguishes this television from the competition.

This is new with the Loewe picture V.65

Loewe makes no secret of it: the picture V is not really completely new, in essence it is based on the Loewe picture 5. Accordingly, the picture V is also a rock-solid and finely crafted piece of technology, the table base alone weighs 7.5 kilograms like an entire television elsewhere.

Loewe continues to use an OLED screen with UHD resolution (4K, 3840x2160 pixels), underneath the integrated soundbar with a beautiful fabric front.

With its bevelled sides, it now hugs the screen more elegantly, otherwise only well-known connoisseurs make the difference to Figure 5.

On the back, Loewe has now dispensed with analog AV inputs and the proprietary audio output for Loewe sound systems, but there are still plenty of connection options.

There are four HDMI connections available, two of them behind a practical flap door on the side.

Two USB ports are easily accessible there, and another is on the back of the TV next to the satellite and antenna connections.

Loewe promises ultra-fast program changes with “Instant Zapping”.

In the test, they needed an average of around 2.5 seconds for satellite and cable reception - that's good, but not remarkably fast.

A separate USB hard drive is not required for TV recordings, as there is already a 1 terabyte hard drive in the television.

Thanks to double receivers, users can watch another program while recording - very conveniently.

In general, this is where one of the strong points of the Loewe television becomes apparent: when recording, it is based on the start and stop commands of the TV station (in the Loewe recording menu "Autom. Time control"), so that any schedule changes on the TV -Program don't mess up the recordings.

Unfortunately, only public service programs use this digital VPS successor.

TV recordings as well as current programs can be called up with the Loewe app on smartphones and tablets; in the test, it worked impressively smoothly with an iPhone 11.

With apps on the television, things still don't look so good at Loewe: The inventor of the smart TV uses its own operating system with only a very limited selection of apps.

A completely new system with the next generation of devices in spring 2021 promises to be a remedy.

Still, buyers of Bild V don't have to go without apps: Loewe simply supplies an Amazon stick.

The Fire TV 4K disappears behind the flap door on the back and can be controlled with the Loewe remote control - a pragmatic solution.

Loewe users would only have to pull the Amazon remote control out of the drawer for voice search, otherwise the streaming apps from Amazon Prime Video, Apple, Disney, Netflix and so on can be used completely.

This is how good the image quality of the Loewe Bild V is

There is nothing wrong with the image quality.

With OLED televisions with their enormous maximum contrast and their clear colors, the level is high anyway, with Loewe Bild V the coordination is apparently carried out particularly carefully.

The test device impressed with its very natural color rendering, and the picture V also mastered HDR films (including Dolby Vision) with their larger color palette and higher maximum brightness.

Loewe apparently does not use the OLED screen to its technical upper limit, which in case of doubt benefits the service life.

The best picture settings for the Loewe Bild V

During the initial installation, the Loewe offers the choice between a standard mode and a premium mode.

Standard is optimized for low energy consumption and leads to a rather bland image impression, the premium version is a bit colorful and embellished.

The most natural picture requires a bit of reworking in the menu: under the menu item picture adjustment,

cinema mode

provides

the best starting point.

Under

the image brightness in a dark environment, but intervenes very strongly - whether you still like the rather dark image is a matter of taste.

The other menu items can remain in the factory settings.

However, it is confusing that two ways lead to the picture settings, but depending on the route, menu items are missing: Pressing the home button of the remote control, which is somewhat small and poorly contrasted, followed by a click on the gear symbol leads to the complete menu.

If, on the other hand, users press the menu button and select the “Image” menu item, the image format cannot be changed, for example.

Powerful sound and clear language

The fact that Loewe pays particular attention to sound is evident from the clearly visible loudspeaker bar.

It impressed in the test with very easy to understand speech reproduction and powerful bass - the “Tagesschau” fanfare is rarely heard that powerful.

With the installed Mimi app, the Loewe Bild V can partially compensate for age-related hearing impairments.

Users enter their year of birth, on the basis of which the television dynamically - i.e. volume-dependent - highlights individual spectral ranges.

The speakers are hidden under the screen behind a beautiful fabric panel.

In contrast to simple tone controls or equalizers, this does not lead to excessive highs or falsified timbres.

In this way, younger or better hearing family members can also live with the sound adjustment.

Users with major hearing impairments increase this even further with the Mimi smartphone app: This enables an individual hearing test, and an individual sound correction is then sent to the television via a user account.

For family members with good hearing, however, it seems a bit cool and artificial.

Different profiles can of course be switched quickly in the sound settings.

Conclusion:

the appearance of the material is a poem, the design is typically Loewe elegant.

Technically, the Loewe Bild V offers a lot, even though it is based on the previous platform.

The narrow loudspeaker under the screen sounds massive, its Mimi technology counteracts age-related hearing loss in users.

The picture quality is excellent, as the Loewe Bild V can compete with the best OLED televisions.

In addition to the tested Image V.65 with a 164-centimeter screen (65 inches), Loewe also offers the technically otherwise identical Image V.55 with a 140-centimeter screen diagonal (55 inches).

A floor stand is available as an accessory, even with a motor for screen adjustment by remote control.

Strengths:

very good picture quality, good sound with great customization options, built-in hard disk recorder, good smartphone app

Weaknesses:

Operation not always logical

Test grade:

good (1.7)
