At the end of last year, Volkswagen already announced that it would withdraw from all disciplines still using heat engines, such as the WRC or the WTCR.
The brand had launched an electric prototype, the ID.
R, which has signed several successes and records but now Volkswagen is withdrawing from any sporting project.

The Volkswagen Motorsport structure will be dissolved and its 169 employees will integrate the parent company.
“The Volkswagen brand is on the way to becoming the leading supplier of sustainable electromobility.
To this end, we are joining forces and have decided to end our own motorsport activities for the Volkswagen brand ”said Dr. Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Directors for Volkswagen Brand Development.
