To help restaurateurs, the Minister of the Economy has decided to use the weapon of the threat.

Bruno Le Maire asked Tuesday for the freezing of insurance premiums for the hotel and catering sector, failing which the government will support a Senate amendment asking for an exceptional contribution from insurers.

đź—Ł @BrunoLeMaire to @pascalperri: "Insurers can and must do more. What I expect from them by the start of next week is the premium freeze: it is the minimum gesture".

The minister expects insurers "at least - I say at least - a freeze on insurance premiums for the entire hotel, cafes and catering sector," he said on LCI.

"Today I have no positive response," he added after having "received for the umpteenth time the insurers" Tuesday.

Bruno Le Maire recalled that the Senate voted a budget amendment establishing "a levy of 1.2 billion on insurers", describing it as "very brutal".

"I am ready to ask the Assembly to find something more balanced, more responsible, but on a very simple condition: that insurers make a significant gesture in the direction of hotels, cafes and restaurants », Detailed the minister.

He gave the insurers the following ultimatum: "They have until next Monday to do so", otherwise "we will adopt this amendment".

The efforts of the banks

"Everyone must change their behavior in this period of crisis", according to the Minister of the Economy who considers that it is not only the State which must make efforts, paying in passing "tribute" to efforts made by banks.

Bruno Le Maire also qualified the letters of insurers to their clients aiming to reduce the covered guarantees as "very clumsy, very inappropriate".

Since March, the insurance sector has deployed various measures to support the economy, ranging from a contribution of 400 million euros to the public fund to support SMEs to an investment program of more of a billion euros, through various initiatives taken individually by the companies.

In total, these individual and collective measures represent 3.8 billion euros in commitments.

But insurers have been accused since the start of the health crisis of not doing enough and dozens of disputes between restaurants and insurers over coverage of operating losses, which are rarely covered, have been taken to court.
